At Portman we aim to do forest school with all the children.
Forest school is playful learning in a forest over a period of time.
The aim is to enable children to love and care for the natural world. We learn about the forest and things you can do there. It can involve tool use and fires but these are planned and prepared for. We take the same group of children to a wood once a week for six weeks so the children really get to know it. We go in all weathers but we dress so that children stay comfortable- the weather and dressing for it is part of the learning. Forest school will happen on Tuesday mornings when the bread making group is finished
Last term we went to a part of Regent’s park that is lightly wooded but now we have moved I am looking at other suitable places. I also choose a place based on the needs of the group I am taking.
When it is your child’s turn to go you will get a letter asking for permission in advance and can ask any questions you might have.
